The Curtis/Herron Saga

Created by Robin 2 years ago

This story of how two families became close begins when Heather was at FEI, a Teacher Training College in London, in the late 50s and became close friends with Felicity Chevallier. At the time, Felicity was dating a Sub Lieutenant Robin Herron RAN, who was to become her husband in 1961.

When Mike and Heather married and headed off on their world tour honeymoon, they stayed with the by then Mrs Felicity Herron in Melbourne - Robin was off at sea so didn't meet them.

The next meeting was when Felicity and Robin were back in the UK for his specialist course in communications and subsequent exchange service with the RN. That meeting took place in Sheffield  and Mike and Heather had arranged quite fascinating accommodation for them in a pub up on the moors. It was also the first meeting for the children - Anthony and Christopher and Fiona, Rhondda and Wendy. Out of that Robin and Felicity were honoured to be asked to be godparents to both boys.

Naval needs took the Herrons back to Australia, where they settled in Canberra, maintaining a regular link between Felicity and Heather.  The families were able to meet up again during the period 1972 to 1975 when Robin was on the Australian Naval Staff in the High Commission in London. The friendship between the two girls just grew ever stronger and a final meeting in 1981, when Felicity and Robin paid a special visit to the UK with Wendy - a very significant visit to see old friends and relations as Felicity had developed multiple sclerosis and her condition was deteriorating.

The close link has remained ever since and Robin and Heather communicate frequently, usually by e-mail. Felicity, who passed away in 1985, would wish Robin to record her great affection for Mike and Heather and to reassure Heather that he is in the Lord's care
